Uses
N-
tert-Butyltrimethylsilylamine may be used in the preparation of selenium and tellurium chalcogenides and the facile synthesis of
N-alkylaminomethylphosphonates.
Preparation
N-tert-Butyltrimethylsilylamine is prepared by the reaction of the parent amines with n-Butyllithium in THF/hexane. The parent amines are prepared by the reaction of lithium t-butylamide and the corresponding chlorosilanes (eq 1).
General Description
N-
tert-Butyltrimethylsilylamine (Me
3SiNH-t-Bu) reacts with [Cp*Rh(H
2O)
3](OTf)
2 in acetone to yield a hydroxyl-capped half-cubane [Cp*3Rh
3(μ-OH)3(μ
3-OH)](OTf)
3(t-BuNH
3).
storage
N-tert-Butyltrimethylsilylamine reacts readily with protic solvents, especially water, and must be maintained in a dry environment. It is thermally stable. Use in a fume hood.
Purification Methods
Best purified by distillation.
