Synthesis
Taking m-chloroacetophenone as the starting material, 1-chloro-3-(3-chloropropyl-1-en-2-yl)benzene (5) was prepared by addition with methyl magnesium chloride, dehydration of p-toluenesulfonic acid, and chlorination of N-chlorobutanediimide in 3-steps; taking diethyl phthalate as the raw material, 2-ethyl-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione was prepared by cycloadditions with ethyl butyrate, and then substitution reaction with the intermediate 5 was occurred. After oxidation with m-chloroperoxybenzoic acid, the end product indenone was produced with a total yield of 47% (in 2) and a purity of 99.77%.
