Uses

3-(o-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropiononitrile is the intermediate of the enemy cough.

Synthesis

Use o-chlorobenzoic acid to chlorinate with thionyl chloride to generate o-chlorobenzoyl chloride, which is then condensed with benzene under the participation of aluminum trichloride to obtain o-chlorobenzoyl. 3-(O-chlorophenyl)-3-hydroxy-3-phenylpropiononitrile is obtained by condensing the latter with acetonitrile under the action of sodium amide.
