Uses
Zeatin belongs to the family of plant-growth hormones called cytokinins and it can be used for agricultural use as agrochemicals for increasing crop yields and regulate various aspects of plant growth and development.
Origin
Zeatin is a plant growth hormone in the cytokinin family. It consists of a purine ring structure with a side chain that contains hydroxyl, amino, and olefin groups. It was discovered in the corn genus Zea, for which it is named. Zeatin and other cytokinins are produced in plants' root systems.
Biological Activity
Zeatin promotes the growth of lateral buds and stimulates cell division (lateral dominance), callus initiation, and seed germination. Zeatin is used with Murashige and Skoog and other media. Zeatin promotes multiple shoot generation from internodes and high-frequency thick-spread roots.
