Uses
Phenoxy Propanol is used as a high-boiling solvent, bactericidal agent, fixa- tive for soaps and perfumes, intermediate for plas- ticizers.
Application
Phenoxy Propanol can be used in a variety of application areas such as a sovent in printing and ball point inks,as a carrier for textile dyes,as acoalescent in water-based coatings and adhesives, as an additive for dewaxing cleaners, e.g.for metals and floors,as a fixative for perfumes.
Synthesis
Phenoxy Propanol, a gycol ether, can be synthesized by reacting propylene oxide with phenol in the presence of Al2O3-MgO/Fe3O4 catalyst.
Toxicity
Moderately toxic by ingestion and skin contact. Experimental reproductive effects. When heated to decompositionit emits acrid smoke and irritating vapors.
