Synthesis
In a 1000 mL round-bottomed single-necked flask, 3-fluoro-4-nitrobenzoic acid (30 g, 190 mmol) was dissolved in 300 mL of a solvent mixture of methanol and tetrahydrofuran, and carbon-loaded palladium (2 g) was added as a catalyst. The reaction system was charged with hydrogen and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 15 hours. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was filtered through diatomaceous earth and the filtrate was collected. The filtrate was dried to give a white solid product. The white solid was further dried in an oven to finally obtain 3-fluoro-4-aminobenzoic acid (24.86 g, 98.6% yield).
