An obsolete fungicide formerly used to control Basidiomycetes pathogens on cereal crops. It has a role as an antifungal agrochemical. It is an anilide, a secondary carboxamide, a member of furans and a furanilide fungicide.

Systemic. Inhibits glucose and acetate oxidative metabolism.

Methfuroxam was prepared by mixing aniline with magnesium metal and sodium hydride and reacting with methyl 2,4,5-trimethylfuran-3-carboxylate.
