Homoplantaginin belong to flavonoids, easily soluble in methanol and ethanol, slightly soluble in acetone, and insoluble in water. Its hemihydrate is a yellow crystal.

Homoplantaginin has bacteriostatic effect. It has moderate inhibitory effect on the common pathogenic bacteria of chronic bronchitis such as Staphylococcus albus and pneumococcus in vitro. It has a certain antagonistic effect on the infection of Staphylococcus aureus in animals, and can reduce the mortality rate 20 %.
