Resolvins are a group of polyhydroxylated metabolites of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) found in the inflammatory exudates of aspirin-treated experimental animals. 17(R)-HDHA is the primary oxygenation product of DHA when exposed to aspirin-inhibited cyclooxygenase-2. 17(R)-HDHA serves as a precursor to resolvins and has intrinsic biological activity, such as the inhibition of TNFα-induced IL-1β expression in human glioma cells.

17(R)-HDHA (17(R)-HDoHE) is a pro-resolving mediator (SPM). 17(R)-HDHA enhances the differentiation of B cells toward the CD27(+)CD38(+) antibody-secreting cell phenotype, thereby strongly increasing IgM and IgG production by activated B cells. 17(R)-HDHA does not affect cell proliferation and is non-toxic to cells[1].

ChEBI: 17(R)-HDoHE is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that is (4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,15E,19Z)-docosa-4,7,10,13,15,19-hexaenoic acid carrying a hydroxy substituent at the 17R-position. It has a role as a human xenobiotic metabolite and a mouse metabolite. It is a conjugate acid of a 17(R)-HDoHE(1-). It is an enantiomer of a 17(S)-HDoHE.
