  Low molecular weight polyethylene glycol (PEG, HO-(CH2CH2O)nH) is widely used as an environmentally friendly solvent and phase transfer catalyst due to its high thermal stability, low volatility, non-flammability, low cost, and biodegradability, and is extensively applied in organic synthesis. The "one-pot" method, which eliminates the need for intermediate product separation, greatly improves atom utilization and is a very promising organic synthesis method. Furthermore, ferric nitrate is an excellent oxidant and catalyst in organic synthesis, and it is abundant, inexpensive, and causes minimal environmental pollution. Our laboratory previously reported that Fe(NO3)3·9H2O/AcOH-PEG400 can easily, conveniently, and efficiently synthesize alcohols and ketones, and can be further condensed with o-phenylenediamine to obtain quinoxaline.
