Glucosylceramide synthase catalyzes the transfer of glucose to ceramide to generate glucosylceramide, the first step in glycosphingolipid synthesis. DL-threo-PPMP is a ceramide analog that inhibits glucosylceramide synthase with an IC50 value between 2 and 20 μM. It has been used to study the role of glucosylceramide synthase in cell growth, apoptosis, and autophagy.
