What is triadimefon used for?

May 22,2023

Triadimefon is a systemic fungicide in the triazole family of chemicals, which are also called triazole or imidazole-containing fungicides. They are used to control fungal pathogens of wheat, barley, oats, fruits, vegetables, cotton, turf, shrubs, trees, and ornamental plants.

Chemical property

Triadimefon is a fungicide used in agriculture to control various fungal diseases. It is relatively soluble and persistent in water. It can be desorbed from soils of treated areas by rainfall and washed into water bodies and aquifers. Triadimefon is degraded by photolysis in intense sunlight within several days, but it is resistant to hydrolysis in anaerobic sediments, where its half-life exceeded 200 days.

Uses

• Triadimefon is a systemic fungicide in the triazole family of chemicals. It is used to control powdery mildews, rusts, and other fungal pests on cereals, fruits, vegetables, turf, shrubs, and trees.

• As a seed treatment, it is used on barley, corn, cotton, oats, rye, sorghum, and wheat.

• Non-food uses include pine seedlings, Christmas trees, turf, ornamental plants, and landscaping.

Mode of action

Triadimefon retarded the elongation of the upper internodes of shoots of tomato and cotton plants. Triadimefon strongly reduced the synthesis of gibberellin-like substances in Fusarium moniliforme. It inhibited the development of haustoria of Erysiphe graminis f. sp. hordei. Studies on its mode of action revealed that triadimefon blocked ergosterol biosynthesis in Ustilago avenae.
