What is the reaction and function of Glucose dehydrogenase?
Dec 10,2025
Glucose dehydrogenase (GDH) is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of glucose, often used in biosensors to measure glucose concentrations. It is not entirely specific for glucose, and other sugars can interfere in a manner related to the particular formulation of the assay and the co-factor used. In particular, GDH-FAD reacts to xylose, and GDH-PQQ can react with maltose, galactose, xylose, and mannose, in addition to glucose.
