What is Riboflavin deficiency?

Nov 5,2025

Riboflavin is a water-soluble and heat-stable vitamin that is used to treat deficiencies in the diet and nutrient issues. It’s used to treat rare genetic problems that keep flavoproteins from forming. It's used to treat hormonal disorders. The signs and symptoms of riboflavin deficiency (also known as ariboflavinosis) include skin disorders, hyperemia (excess blood) and edema of the mouth and throat, angular stomatitis (lesions at the corners of the mouth), cheilosis (swollen, cracked lips), hair loss, reproductive problems, sore throat, itchy and red eyes, and degeneration of the liver and nervous system. Severe riboflavin deficiency can impair the metabolism of other nutrients, especially other B vitamins, through diminished levels of flavin coenzymes.
