Unveiling Doxycycline Hyclate: Key Attributes, Applications, and Storage Considerations
Doxycycline Hyclate – Introduction
Doxycycline Hyclate, also known as doxycycline hydrochloride or doxycycline HCl, is a commonly used antibiotic analog of tetracycline. It has been reported to be more sensitive to certain microorganisms than tetracycline, and some tetracycline-resistant microorganisms can be inhibited by doxycycline hydrochloride. It is commonly used in biological experiments as an inducer or inhibitor for tet on or tet off-induced expression or inhibition of target genes.
This Doxycycline hyclate has been tested to be effective not only in inducing the expression of tet on or tet off tet systems in cells but also in inducing the expression of tet on or tet off tet systems in mice.
Doxycycline hyclate is a commonly used broad-spectrum antibiotic and also an inhibitor of MMP-8 (neutrophil collagen; IC50=30 μ M). It also has a certain inhibitory effect on MMP-1 (collagenase-1; IC50=300 μ M). Some reports can inhibit LPS-induced macrophage activation.
Doxycycline hyclate has a molecular weight of 512.94 and a molecular formula of C22H24N2O8 ·HCl · 1/2 (H2O) · 1/2 (C2H6O). Its CAS number is 24390-14-5. The purity of this product is greater than 98%.
The solubility of Doxycycline hyclate in water is about 50mg/ml, and it forms a yellow-green solution after dissolution. When dissolved at 50mg/ml, moderate heating is sometimes necessary to achieve complete dissolution. Doxycycline hyclate aqueous solution can only be stored stably for 5 days at 4 ℃, and longer storage times require freezing.
Doxycycline Hyclate is a broad-spectrum antibiotic widely used to treat various infectious diseases. It can be used to treat infections in the respiratory tract, skin, urogenital system, digestive tract, eyes, and other areas. It can effectively inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria, thus playing a role in sterilization.
The preparation method of Doxycycline Hyclate can be obtained by reacting doxycycline with hydrochloric acid. Doxycycline is a four-ring yellow pigment that reacts with hydrochloric acid to form water-soluble Doxycycline Hyclate[1].

Purpose
MMP inhibitor
In addition to its antibacterial properties, Doxycycline Hyclate is also a broad-spectrum inhibitor of metalloproteinases (MMPs). MMPs are enzymes involved in extracellular matrix degradation and are associated with many pathological processes such as inflammation, tumor invasion, and metastasis. By inhibiting MMPs, Doxycycline Hyclate can reduce the degradation of the extracellular matrix, thus playing a role in the treatment of certain diseases.
Other uses
Doxycycline Hyclate has also been used to induce the expression of tet on or tet off systems in cells and mice. In addition, it can also inhibit LPS-induced macrophage activation, demonstrating potential immunomodulatory effects.
Side effects of Doxycycline
Doxycycline Hyclate, as a tetracycline antibiotic, exhibits antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Its antibacterial spectrum is extensive, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as some spirochetes, mycoplasma, chlamydia, etc. In addition, it is also effective against certain microorganisms that are resistant to tetracycline.
It may cause some common side effects, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, loss of appetite, etc. During use, follow medical advice, and pay attention to dosage and duration of use. And pay attention to usage restrictions in specific populations such as pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children.
Doxycycline Hyclate may also cause color changes in teeth. It is necessary to strengthen oral hygiene during use and avoid using it in children with developing teeth as much as possible.
Characteristics of Doxycycline
