The mechanism of action, storage method, and properties of Tesamorelin (usan)

Nov 7,2024

Temorelin was developed by Theratechnologies and approved for marketing in the United States in 2010 under the trade name Egrifta. The original drug is available only in the United States.

Temorelin is indicated for the treatment of excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected patients with lipodystrophy and is not indicated for weight loss management (weight neutral effect).

Mechanism of Action

Temorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone releasing factor (GRF). Similar to the effects of endogenous GRF, it acts in vitro by binding to and activating GRF receptors. GRF is a hypothalamic regulatory polypeptide that stimulates the synthesis and release of endogenous growth hormone (GH) by pituitary somatotrophs. GH exerts its pharmacological effects by interacting with specific receptors on target cells, including chondrocytes, osteoblasts, cardiomyocytes, hepatocytes, and adipocytes.

Storage Instructions

Store the box containing the Tesamorelin injection vial in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Store the box containing the provided liquid, needle, and syringe at room temperature away from light, excessive heat, and moisture (not in the bathroom). Close each box tightly and keep it out of the reach of children.

Unneeded medications should be handled in a special way to ensure that pets, children, and others do not take them. However, you should not flush this medication down the toilet. Instead, the best way to dispose of medications is through a medication take-back program. Ask your pharmacist or contact your local trash/recycling department to find out about take-back programs in your community.

It is important to keep all medications out of the sight and reach of children because many containers (such as weekly pill keepers and containers for eye drops, creams, patches, and inhalers) are not child-resistant and young children can easily open them. To protect young children from poisoning, always lock the safety cap and immediately put the medication in a safe place - out of the sight and reach of children.
