Probenecid: Uses; Side effects and Interactions
Uses of Probenecid
Probenecid is used to treat chronic gout and gouty arthritis. It is used to prevent flare-ups associated with gout rather than treating gout after it occurs. It acts on the kidneys to help the body eliminate uric acid. Probenecid is also used to make certain antibiotics more effective by preventing the body from excreting them through the urine. Probenecid should not be used in children under 2 years of age.
