Cerium hydroxide: Chemical properties & Uses
Chemical Properties
Cerium hydroxide is light yellow or brownish yellow powder, insoluble in water and weak acid, soluble in concentrated acid to form the corresponding salt. It absorbs C0) in the air and then produces cerium carbonate.
Uses
Cerium hydroxide is used in the manufacture of various cerium salts and use as glass colorants. The acryl citrate and salts of methacrylie acid are obtained by its reaction with acrylate and methylacrylate acid. It is also used as a resin auxiliaries and an ionic crosslinking agent.
Cerium hydroxide is used as glass decolourizing agent and clarifying agent in the glass (color TV) industry. In the chemical industry, it is used in the manufacture of automotive exhaust gas purification catalysts, stabilizers for polyvinyl chloride plastics, and also used as a paint drier in the synthesis of barium naphthalate. In the metallurgical industry, it is used as a spheroidizing agent for nodular cast iron to smelt strontium ferrosilicon alloy, and also used as a raw material for smelting rare earth-rich ferrosilicon alloy. It is also used as an additive in electroplating technology.
