Introduction:

Theophylline, also known as dimethylxanthine, is a methylxanthine drug used in therapy for respiratory diseases such as COPD or asthma under a variety of brand names

relaxing bronchial smooth muscle ,Increasing heart muscle contractility and efficiency: positive inotropic, increasing heart rate: positive chronotropic, increasing blood pressure , increasing renal blood flow

Theophylline is used in the relief and prevention of airway narrowing (bronchospasm) in patients with asthma. Theophylline can also be used in treating patients with emphysema and chronic bronchitis when their symptoms are related to reversible airway narrowing. Theophylline can be administered together with other bronchodilators, such as albuterol (Ventolin, Proventil) for added bronchodilator effect
