Background

Interleukin‑13 (IL‑13) is a pleiotropic Th2‑type cytokine, mainly secreted by activated Th2 cells, mast cells and basophils. IL‑13 exerts broad biological functions including regulating B‑cell activation and differentiation, inhibiting pro‑inflammatory cytokine production, inducing IgE class‑switching, and participating in airway inflammation, fibrosis and allergic disease pathogenesis. IL‑13 signals via heterodimeric receptor complexes composed of IL‑4Rα / IL‑13Rα1 or IL‑13Rα2. It plays critical roles in asthma, atopic dermatitis and fibrotic disorders.
