Tat beclin 1 is a peptide derived from the autophagic protein region (beclin 1), which is an effective inducer of autophagy. The sequence contains 31 amino acids and has physiological functions of membrane penetration. It interacts with the negative regulator of autophagy, GAPR-1 (GLIPR2). Tat beclin 1 reduced the accumulation of in vitro polyglutamine amplification protein aggregates and the replication of various pathogens, including HIV-1, and decreased the mortality rate of mice infected with chikungunya disease (CHIKV) or West Nile virus (WNV).
