Senktide selectively interacts with the substance P receptor subtype (SP-N) and can be used to study the regulation, distribution, and functional roles of this receptor. Senktide is a peptide agonist of the substance P NK-3 receptor, containing six amino acids with one unnatural amino acid, which may lead to behavioral effects similar to those induced by serotonin stimulation in mouse models. It has been noted that the NK-3R (substance P NK-3 receptor) mediates bronchoconstriction in guinea pig lungs, and activation of these receptors by Senktide has also been shown to induce bronchoconstriction. Additionally, Senktide has been demonstrated to induce a higher number of Fos-LI neurons in various regions of the guinea pig brain.
