The BTN3A2 antibody targets the BTN3A2 protein, a member of the butyrophilin (BTN) family, which plays roles in immune regulation and cell signaling. BTN3A2. also known as CD277. is part of the BTN3 subfamily (BTN3A1. BTN3A2. BTN3A3) and shares structural features with immunoglobulin superfamily proteins, including extracellular IgV and IgC domains. It is expressed in various tissues, particularly immune cells, epithelial cells, and certain cancers. BTN3A2 has garnered attention for its involvement in modulating γδ T cell-mediated immune responses. While BTN3A1 is well-characterized in binding phosphoantigens (e.g., microbial metabolites) to activate Vγ9Vδ2 T cells, BTN3A2's exact function remains less defined but is hypothesized to collaborate with BTN3A1 or regulate immune checkpoint pathways.

BTN3A2 antibodies are primarily used in research to study protein expression, localization, and functional mechanisms. They enable detection via techniques like flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and Western blot. Interest in BTN3A2 has grown due to its potential links to autoimmune diseases, cancer immunology, and infectious immunity.
