CKM antibodies target creatine kinase M-type (CKM), a key enzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism. Creatine kinase (CK) catalyzes the reversible transfer of phosphate between creatine and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), playing a critical role in maintaining energy homeostasis, particularly in tissues with high energy demands like skeletal muscle, heart, and brain. The CK system exists as dimeric isoforms: CK-MM (muscle), CK-MB (cardiac), and CK-BB (brain). CKM refers to the muscle-specific isoform encoded by the *CKM* gene, predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle and, to a lesser extent, in cardiac tissue.

CKM antibodies are widely used in research and diagnostics to detect and quantify CK-MM, aiding in the assessment of muscle damage or disease. Elevated CK-MM levels in blood are biomarkers for conditions such as muscular dystrophy, rhabdomyolysis, or myocardial injury. In research, these antibodies help study muscle regeneration, mitochondrial function, and pathologies linked to energy dysregulation. They are also employed in techniques like Western blot, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA to evaluate tissue-specific expression patterns. Additionally, CKM antibodies have applications in studying cancer, as some tumors exhibit aberrant CK expression. Their specificity for the M-subunit makes them valuable tools for distinguishing muscle-related pathologies from other CK isoform-associated disorders.
