Endomorphin is two endogenous opioid peptides. Endomorphin-1 and Endomorphin-2 are known pairs μ  Opioid receptors are tetrapeptides with the highest affinity and specificity. Endomorphin-1 is located in the Solitary nucleus, periventricular hypothalamus and dorsomedial hypothalamus, and in histaminergic neurons, which can regulate sedation and arousal behavior. Assuming that the endorphin peptide is a cleavage product of a larger precursor, this peptide or protein has not yet been identified. Perikarya expressing EM2 like immunoreactivity exists in the posterior hypothalamus, while Perikarya expressing EM1 like immunoreactivity exists in the posterior hypothalamus and Solitary nucleus (NTS). EM1 like immunoreactivity is more widely and densely distributed throughout the brain than EM2 like immunoreactivity, while EM2 like immunoreactivity is more common in the spinal cord than EM1 like immunoreactivity. Endomorphin is involved in the regulation of nociception, Autonomic nervous system processes and responses to stress.
