5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl b-D-xylopyranoside (5BCX) is a natural product that has been sequenced. The structure of 5BCX contains an indole moiety, which is the core of many biologically active compounds. It also has a low inhibitory effect on β-galactosidase activity.
