Ropivacaine is the first pure L-body long-acting amide local anesthetic. Like other local anesthetics, it can reversibly block the impulse conduction along nerve fibers by blocking the influx of sodium ions into the nerve fiber cell membrane. High doses can produce surgical anesthesia, while low doses produce sensory block (analgesia) with only limited non-progressive motor block. The addition of epin'ephrine did not alter the intensity and duration of ropivacaine blockade.
