Procaine hydrochloride is a local anesthetic, can temporarily block the conduction of nerve fibers and has anesthetic effect, strong effect, low toxicity, and no addiction, but the penetration of skin and mucous membrane is weak, not suitable for surface anesthesia, clinical mainly used for infiltration, spinal and conduction anesthesia.
The aqueous solution of this product is stable between pH3.0 and 5.0. Therefore, when preparing procaine hydrochloride injection, it is generally necessary to add acid to adjust the pH3.3 ~ 5.5, and strictly control the sterilization temperature and time, and it is appropriate to sterilize the steam at 100℃ for 30min, and attention should be paid to shade the light and keep it closed. The aromatic amino group in the structure of this product is combined with sodium nitrite to form diazo salt in dilute hydrochloric acid, and basic β-naphthol is added to produce scarlet azo compound.

The ester bond in the structure of procaine hydrochloride can be hydrolyzed to produce p-aminobenzoic acid and diethylaminoethanol. Under certain conditions, p-aminobenzoic acid can be further decarboxylated to produce toxic aniline. The structure of procaine hydrochloride has aromatic amino group, easy oxidation discoloration, pH value, temperature, ultraviolet light, oxygen and metal ions can accelerate oxidation discoloration.
