Povidone iodine is an unstable complex formed by the complexation of surfactant and iodine, belonging to iodophor class of external disinfectants, yellowish-brown to reddish-brown amorphous powder at room temperature, easily soluble in water or ethanol, not soluble in ether or chloroform. The 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone homopolymer is a surfactant, which helps the solution to moisten and penetrate the object, thus enhancing the bactericidal effect of iodine. Among them, 80 ~ 90% of the combined iodine can be depolymerized into free iodine, with large concentration, strong bactericidal power, tasteless, no irritation, no sensitization, and low toxicity. It is a broad spectrum fungicide, which can kill viruses, bacteria, spores, fungi and protozoa. At a concentration of 15ppm, it can kill the propagules of various bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and pseudomonas aeruginosa) within 1 minute, take a longer time to kill tuberculosis bacillus, 1.5 hours to kill fungi (Subtilis), and take a higher concentration and a longer time to kill black mutants and Bacillus cereus spores. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) can be destroyed at a concentration of 150ppm for 10 minutes. In addition to skin disinfection, this product can also be used for metal medical equipment, tableware and other disinfection. Usually red or amber in the concentration of disinfection, it can be directly used for the skin and meninges at the incision site of surgical patients, and can also be used for external irrigation in obstetrics and gynecology and urology. When its concentration drops below 10ppm, it becomes white or light yellow and loses its bactericidal activity.
