It is a strong acidic reagent, can be used as a catalyst for Lewis acid, often used to catalyze esterification reaction, cyclization reaction, enolization and other organic reactions. It can also be used as a chemical analysis reagent.
Diethyl bromofluoromethyl phosphonate is usually prepared by reacting gaseous boron trifluoride (BF3) with ethanol. The reaction condition is that boron trifluoride is passed into ethanol as a gas, which usually produces diethyl bromofluoromethyl phosphonate at room temperature.
