The English name is 5-Cyanophthalide, which is a white or light yellow crystal at room temperature and pressure. It is insoluble in water but soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and chloroform.

5-Cyanophthalein is a commonly used intermediate in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical chemistry, commonly used in the synthesis of organic functional material molecules and drug molecules.
