NADH Details
Beta-nicotinamide adenine dinucleoside disodium is a biologically active form of niacin. Used as a coenzyme for hydrogenase and dehydrogenase. NAD usually acts as a hydrogen acceptor, forms NADH, and then acts as a hydrogen donor in the respiratory chain. It mainly exists in the reduced form (NADPH) in living cells and participates in the synthesis reaction. Two forms occur, α-NAD and β-NAD, which are characterized by the configuration of ribosylnicotinamide bonds. Only β-anomeric compounds have biological activity.
