Uses: simvastatin, a statin's hypolipidemic drug, is a synthetic derivative of the fermentation product of Aspergillus terreus, which is used to control the amount of cholesterol in the blood as well as prevent cardiovascular disease.Simvastatin belongs to the class of methyl hydroxyglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors and inhibits endogenous cholesterol synthesis as a lipid modulator.It has been shown to reduce the amount of cholesterol (TC) in the serum, liver, and aorta of hyperlipidemic rabbits and to reduce the levels of very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C).
