Selank is a synthetic analog of human immunoglobulin G (tetrapeptide tuftsin). It has anxiolytic and neuroprotective effects and is used to treat generalized anxiety disorder. Selank is effective in stress reduction, alleviation of depression, reversal of anhedonia, improvement in mood, and cessation of insomnia. Activates the processes of learning, memory, analysis, and reproducing information and improves short-term memory and attention. Selank has no embryotoxic, teratogenic, allergenic, or irritating action; it doesn't cause drug dependence phenomena.
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide that consists of 7 amino acids (threonine-lysine-proline-arginine-proline-glycine-proline). Being the analog of tuftsin - the endogenous peptide - selank mimics many of its effects. It works by modulating dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine systems, as well as providing potent effects on the immune system. Selank was also observed to have neuroprotective and neuroregenerative properties and can modulate the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).
