Colorless needles, or opaque, crystalline mass. M.P. 28℃. B.P. 228℃. Sp.Gr. 1.00 (0.99 liquid). Almost insoluble in water and Glycerin, soluble in alcohol, oils and Propylene glycol. Poorly soluble in mineral oil.
Para methyl acetophenone finds some use in flavor compositions for imitation Almond, Vanilla and various fruit complexes. The normal concentration is about 1 to 10 ppm but maybe as high as 500 or 1,000 ppm in chewing gum.
Para methyl acetophenone is produced by Friedel-Craft's reaction upon Toluene, Acetic anhydride and Aluminum chloride.
