DC-Chol is a cationic cholesterol derivative. DC-Chol, as a component of lipoplexes with DOPE , has been used for transfection of mRNA into A549 cells without affecting cell viability. Incubation of DC-chol/DOPE liposomes or lipoplexes with human whole blood has no effect on neutrophil elastase or β-thromboglobulin levels or the number of platelets and red and white blood cells, indicating hemocompatibility. DC-Chol has also been widely used in the synthesis of liposomes for the delivery of siRNA, DNA, and chemotherapeutic agents into cells and mice.
This cationic cholesterol derivative forms liposomes with L-α-phosphatidylethanolamine, dioleoyl, that efficiently transfect mammalian cell lines.
DC-Cholesterol HCl is suitable:
- for the preparation of ultrasound cationic microbubbles
- to prepare liposomes
- for the preparation of L-glutathione (GSH), loaded proliposomes
DC-Cholesterol HCl is a sterol-based transfection reagent.
DC-Cholesterol is an effective transfection agent and a liposome reagent. Liposome of DC-Cholesterol with dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) are efficient for DNA transfection. It imparts positive surface charge to the microbubbles for ultra sound based transfection of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPRs).
