K2CO3 (5.5 g, 39.6 mmol) was added as 5-bromo-2-fluoro-3-methylpyridine (2.5 g, 13.2 mmol) and morpholine (3.4 g, 39.2 mmol) dissolved in 40 mL of DMSO. The reaction mixture was heated to 120 °C and stirred for 16 hours. After the reaction was completed, the mixture was cooled to room temperature. 200 mL of water was added to the reaction mixture and extracted with ethyl acetate (150 mL x 3). The organic layers were combined, washed sequentially with 150 mL of water and 150 mL of brine, and dried with anhydrous Na2SO4. The organic layer was concentrated under reduced pressure to afford the target compound 5-bromo-3-methyl-2-(morpholinato)pyridine (1.8 g, 53% yield) as a white solid.LC-MS detection: [M + H]+ = 257.0.
