MCPA-diolamine is produced by first manufacturing and purifying technical-grade MCPA acid through the standard industrial sequence of para-cresol chlorination followed by carboxylation to form the phenoxyacetic acid. The neutralisation step uses diethanolamine rather than the simpler monoethanolamine, yielding a highly water soluble diolamine salt when the acid is reacted with the amine in aqueous solution under controlled pH and temperature. The resulting solution is then filtered, adjusted to the target active ingredient concentration, and standardised for use.
