The empirical formula of butyl phthalyl butyl glycolate is
C18H24O6. Its structural formula is 1-(COOC4H9)-2-
(COOCH2COOC4H9)C6H4. It is relatively
insoluble in water but is soluble in organic solvents.
Butyl phthalyl butyl glycolate is used as a plasticizer for
polyvinylchloride. It isusedformaking avarietyofpackaging
films because it imparts very good stability to heat and light.
ChEBI: Butyl phthalyl butylglycolate is a benzoate ester.
Mildly toxic via
intraperitoneal route. Experimental
teratogenic and reproductive effects.
Mutation data reported. An eye irritant.
When heated to decomposition it emits
acrid and irritating fumes.
In a 2-year dietary study, rats
receiving up to 20,000 ppm (1 g/kg/day) of butyl phthalyl
butyl glycolate exhibited no significant increases in tumor
incidence when compared to control animals.
