21.5 g (0.1 mol) of (7-methoxy-1-naphthyl)acetamide was dissolved in 160 mL of toluene at room temperature. 26.9 g (0.2 mol) of TMDS and 28.4 g (0.1 mol) of Ti(OiPr)4 were added with stirring. The mixture was heated to 100°C and stirred overnight. TLC showed that the starting material had disappeared, and the main product, 7-methoxy-1-naphthylethylamine, was formed. After cooling to room temperature, HCl gas was introduced, and the product precipitated as a hydrochloride salt. Filtering and drying yielded 20.3 g of 2-(7-METHOXYNAPHTHALEN-1-YL)ETHANAMINE hydrochloride with a chemical purity exceeding 99% and a yield of 85.4%.
