Ethyl icosapentate is an ester of a polyunsaturated acid derived from fish oil. It is reported to decrease platelet aggregation, reduce blood viscosity and increase erythrocyte deformability.
Ethyl eicosapentaenoate contains several double bonds and ester groups, with high reactivity, and can participate in a variety of organic chemical reactions, such as addition reactions and esterification reactions.
Eicosapentaenoic Acid Ethyl Ester is used in the treatment of ischemic brain damage and reduce injury. Also used in the therapeutic treatment of statin-treated patients with persistent high triglycerides.
