Yellow liquid. Insoluble in water; soluble in light oils.
Furethrin is an insecticide, use like allethrin.
The commercial manufacturing process of furethrin is not described in open literature. However, based on its structure its commercial synthesis would have followed the classical pyrethroid production route used in the 1950s–1970s: separate preparation of the acid component (2,2 dimethyl 3 methylpropenyl cyclopropanecarboxylic acid) and the alcohol component (a furfuryl substituted cyclopentenone), followed by acid chloride formation and esterification under controlled conditions to produce the final ester.
A synthetic analog of allethrin substituting the 2furfuryl for allyl in the side chain.
