2-Pyridyldimethylsilane is reagent used for metal-catalyzed hydrosilylation of alkynes and
alkenes.Presumably because of the presence of catalyst-directing pyridyl group on silicon, 2- pyridyldimethylsilane exhibits greater reactivity in Rh-catalyzed hydrosilylation of alkenes than those of other related hydrosilanes. Moreover, the presence of the basic pyridyl group enables easy product separation and facile catalyst recovery through simple acid/base extraction.
A useful scaffold for a number of reactions including hydrosilylation, cross-coupling, and olefination.
2-Pyridyldimethylsilane can be prepared by reaction of 2-pyridyllithium
with chlorodimethylsilane in dry Et2O at ?78°Cunder
argon.
