Tetrasul is a chlorinated diphenyl sulfide aracacide. Tetrasul is used for the control of mites and other pests in food and gardening crops.
Tetrasul is commercially produced by reacting phosphine gas with formaldehyde and sulfuric acid. The production process begins with the controlled oxidation of phosphine in aqueous formaldehyde, forming tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium hydroxide (THPOH). This intermediate is then neutralised with sulphuric acid to produce the stable sulphate salt. The reaction is conducted under strictly regulated temperature and pH conditions to ensure safety and product consistency.
ChEBI: Tetrasul is an organochlorine compound.
Acts by inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation. Contact action.
