Solanid-5-ene-3β,23β-diol

A crystalline alkaloid obtained from Leptinotarsa decenlineata Say., this base forms clusters of colourless needles from EtOH. It is laevorotatory with [α]¹⁸_D- 19.0° (c 0.63, CHCl3) and gives a dihydro derivative on reduction, m.p. 215 C; [α]_D + 32° (CHCl3), the latter forming the O,O-diacetate, m.p. 222-3°C; [α]_D + 2.95° (CHCl3).
