This alkaloid from Thalictrum minus was originally given the empirical formula
C2oH2303N, later altered to that given above. It forms colourless crystals from
a mixture of CHC13 and EtOH and is laevorotatory with [α]D - 64.5°. The salts
and derivatives are crystalline but normally decompose before melting: the
hydrochloride, m.p. 147-157°C (dec.); perchlorate, decomposing at 238-241°C
and the methiodide, decomposing at 250°C. The o-acetate has [α]D - 219°.
Three methoxyl groups, a phenolic hydroxyl group and two methylimino
groups are present
