Light-orange crystals. Insoluble in water.
Fungicide (fruits and vegetables).
Glyodin is an organic fungicide.
ChEBI: Glyodin is an imidazole fungicide.
Detailed information on the synthesis of Glyodin is not available in open literature. However, it was probably produced through a sequence typical for long chain imidazoline fungicides, whereby industrial manufacture begins with the condensation of a long chain fatty acid (commonly stearic or heptadecanoic acid) with ethylenediamine under controlled heating to form the 2 heptadecyl 2 imidazoline ring system. This cyclodehydration step is carried out under reduced pressure to remove water and drive ring closure. The resulting imidazoline intermediate is then acetylated using acetic acid or acetic anhydride to yield the monoacetate salt, which corresponds to the commercial active ingredient glyodin.
Protective action. Glyodin works by disrupting enzymatic functions and essential metabolic pathways of fungi on contact
