The general procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminomalonamide from diethyl aminomalonate is as follows: 17.5 g of diethyl 2-aminomalonate and 22 g of 50% aqueous ammonium chloride were accurately weighed, mixed, and then heated at reflux for 2 h at 100 °C. The reaction was completed by filtration. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and the solid product was separated by filtration. The resulting solid was dried with hot air at 60 °C for 8 h. A white crystalline powder 2-aminomalonamide 10.2 g was obtained in 87% yield.
