Uses

1,1'-Dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine per chlorate is a lipophilic dye used to record membrane voltage for fluidity studies. This retrograde stain is useful in staining neuronsin vitroandin vivobecause the stain is relatively nontoxic to cell bodies and the dye is retained in neurons. In addition, 1,1'-Dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine per chlorate is an ideal retrograde and anterograde tracer to label the processes as well as the cell bodies of cultured neurons.

Uses

1,1′-Dioctadecyl-3,3,3′,3′-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate has been used in fluorescent labelling of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)and cerebral cortex. It has also been used in electromyogram (EMG) to determine awake and anesthetized states in mice.

General Description

DiI is a Dye Aye, a chemical with CAS number 41085-99-8. It is a fluorescent lipophilic cationic indocarbocyanine dye, which is usually made as a perchlorate salt. Mostly used for scientific staining purposes, such as single molecule imaging, fate mapping and neuronal tracing (as DiI is retained in the lipid bilayers).
