Poly(4-vinylpyridine), cross-linked is a useful acid scavenger and basic catalyst, replacement for pyridine, enabling simplified workup and product isolation.
PVP can be used in a variety of applications such as:
- fabrication of antibacterial surfaces
- development of pH sensitive systems
- 3D molecular level ordering systems
- anti-corrosive coatings
- dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs)(90}
ChEBI: A vinyl polymer composed of repeating -CH2-CR- units where R is a 4-pyridyl group.
Poly(4-vinylpyridine) (PVP) is a pyridine containing polymer that is used in the surface modification by immobilizing the atoms present on the surface.
Mineral acids to a molecular equivalence; (3% solution or greater) in acetic acid and lower alcohols; Insoluble in aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, water
Purify it by repeated precipitation from solutions in EtOH and dioxane, and then EtOH and ethyl acetate. Finally, freeze-dry a tert-butanol solution.
